PROFILE
Designer/Goldsmith Emily Keifer established Emily Keifer Fine Jewels in 1995 after studying Ancient Jewelry techniques in New York City for five years. This extensive study of Greek, Roman and Egyptian jewelry provides key design elements, as well as the technical inspiration behind the work. The use of high karat (18, 22kt) gold is traditional to classical jewelry, and is an exciting complement to the pearls, stones and beads used in each design. Three prominent processes are granulation, chain weaving and bezel setting. Granulation is the technique for decorating a surface by fusing tiny balls of metal in a pattern. Chain making involves creating individual links from wire and weaving them together. Bezel setting a stone is to secure it in a box-like setting. Each handcrafted piece is detailed, feminine and made to be worn for generations. Adorning the body with precious jewelry is my favorite form of personal expression. My customer is someone who is looking to make an individual statement about who she is. A chunky, one of a kind bezel ring in 22kt gold set with juicy colored stones is a perfect signature piece. The crosses are dramatic and powerful, fabricated in 18kt gold and rich in granulated detail. Tanzanite, Spinel, Pink Sapphire and Mexican Fire Opal are some of my favorite stones to use. The glow of a beautiful pearl necklace is undeniably feminine, especially for a bride. Tiny glittering earrings make beautiful gifts. Long, sparkling beaded earrings with briolette drops are a bit vintage in feel. There is something about wearing a beautiful piece of Jewelery that is empowering.
